International students staying in Japan for a year or longer should enroll in the National Health Insurance.
Subscribers to the National Health Insurance have to pay only 30% of medical expenses for any treatment covered by this insurance.
Student with "College Student" visa that have registered with the National Health Insurance are eligible for JASSO's Medical Expenses Reimbursement Program. This entitles the international students for a further discount of 35% from the self - pay amount of 30%.

REMARKS :
Enrollment procedures for National Health Insurance System are carried out at the local ward or municipal office, and yearly premium is about RM 420 ~ RM 1,400
The annual premium varies by area. Students without a source of income while in Japan usually pay a reduced premium
Expenses for medical treatment not covered by the insurance must be paid in full
