UTMy: Extending University of Tsukuba’s Global Vision to Malaysia
In September 2024, University of Tsukuba expanded its vision internationally with the opening of the University of Tsukuba, Malaysia (UTMy) in Kuala Lumpur. This is the first case that a Japanese university launched its overseas branch campus awarding a Japanese degree. UTMy aims to develop individuals with data science literacy who can apply ideas and technologies from the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences to a broad range of environmental and social issues. By utilising design thinking, our students can creatively contribute to solving global issues.

Transdisciplinary Education at UTMy
At UTMy, students pursue a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree, a transdisciplinary programme that combines English and Japanese in its delivery. This programme provides students with an overall literacy of global issues, equipping them with the skills to analyse and address these challenges from diverse perspectives across various disciplines.
As Japan’s first overseas branch campus, UTMy integrates Japanese higher education with innovative teaching methodologies. The Problem-Based Learning (PBL) approach at UTMy ensures that students engage with real-world issues, preparing them for careers that require critical thinking, adaptability, and a collaborative mindset.

Join us at the University of Tsukuba, where innovation meets tradition, and education transcends borders.
