Pathways to Study in Japan
(Privately-financed Students)

OPTION 1
Qualification :

STPM, A-Level, UEC, IBD, Diploma or equivalent qualification (with 12 years formal education, good command in English)
  • Apply for undergraduate courses offered in English language.
  • Pre-requisite of Japanese language proficiency is not necessary.
  • Duration of study is 4 years for regular undergraduate faculties.
  • List of Japanese undergraduate courses offered in English language could be downloaded from University Degree Courses offered in English

OPTION 2
Qualification :

STPM, A-Level, UEC, IBD, Diploma or equivalent qualification     (with 12 years of formal education, Japanese  language command is insufficient)
  • Study for Japanese language as well as University Preparatory Course offered by private universities / junior colleges
  • Study for Japanese language course at Japanese language institutes publicly notified by the Ministry of Justice
  • Study for the Pre-U Course offered by Pusat Bahasa Teikyo (PBT) in Malaysia.
    Duration of study is 1 year ~ 20 months.
Apply for undergraduate courses offered in Japanese language.
  • Sit for admission tests required by Japanese university ; e.g. EJU Examination.
  • EJU Examination is also conducted in Malaysia.
  • Malaysian students who choose to sit for EJU Examination in Malaysia and apply for Japanese university which offers the Pre-arrival Admission System will be granted admission by Japanese university by using EJU Examination results, without having to travel to Japan for another round of admission test.
  • In the case where the university requires international students to sit for their own admission test on top of the EJU Examination, it is necessary for the students to travel to Japan to sit for the required test.

OPTION 3
Qualification :

SPM or O-Level
(without 12 years of formal education)
  • Study for Japanese language as well as University Preparatory Course at one of the designated Japanese language institutes by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology – Japan (MEXT).

Malaysia = 1 school (PBT)

Japan = 23 schools

Apply for undergraduate courses offered in Japanese language.
  • Sit for admission tests required by Japanese university ; e.g. EJU Examination.
  • EJU Examination is also conducted in Malaysia.
