EJU Subjects, Examination Language & Timetable

According to the requirements of the university they want to enter and the course of study they want to pursue, the examinees select the subject tests that they will take from the following table.

Examinees may not choose to take both the Science test and the Japan and the World test.

Examination language
The questions are available in Japanese or English. (The Japanese as a Foreign Language subject is available in Japanese only.)
When applying to take the examination, applicants need to specify their language of choice, in accordance with the requirements of the university that they wish to enter.

The structure of EJU subjects
Japanese as a Foreign Language
  1. Structure:
    The test in Japanese as a Foreign Language consists of writing, reading comprehension,  and listening and listening-reading comprehension.
  2. Order and Time:
    The order of the examinations is writing (30 minutes), reading comprehension (40 minutes), listening and listening-reading comprehension (55 minutes).
  3. Score range:
    The score range 0 – 400, consists of reading comprehension 0 – 200, listening and listening-reading comprehension 0 – 200.The writing evaluation will be marked in the range 0 – 50, consists of grammatical abilities and logical abilities
Science
In the science area, according to the requirements of the university they want to enter and the course of study they want to pursue, examinees have to select two subjects from physics, chemistry and biology, on the examination day, in accordance with the requirements of the university that they wish to enter.
Mathematics
In the mathematics area, according to the requirements of the university they want to enter and the course of study they want to pursue, examinees have to select either of Course 1 or Course 2 on the examination day, in accordance with the requirements of the university that they wish to enter.

Course1:

  • For liberal arts faculties
  • For science faculties where comparatively less mathematics is required

  • For science faculties where a higher level mathematics is required
